Boeing OHC Crane Retrofit

🏗️ Project Overview

To support Boeing’s evolving manufacturing needs, Bastion Group was engaged to provide structural engineering services for the retrofit of an existing overhead crane system at a Charleston-based engine build-up facility. The goal: extend the crane’s reach and functionality to accommodate larger and more complex aerospace components.

🛠️ Scope of Services

Working in close collaboration with Division Five and Boeing’s internal teams, Bastion Group delivered:

  • Review of original crane manufacturer structural documentation
  • Structural load evaluation per ASCE 7-22 and IBC 2021 standards
  • Engineered retrofit design for column extensions to support the extended crane system
  • Stamped construction drawings tailored to minimize disruption to live plant operations

🧠 Engineering Insight

This project exemplified Bastion Group’s ability to work within active industrial environments while delivering smart retrofit solutions. With careful planning and coordination, the retrofit was designed to expand crane capabilities without hindering ongoing facility operations.

✅ Value Delivered

By upgrading critical overhead lifting infrastructure, Bastion Group enabled Boeing to handle larger parts and assemblies, enhancing production flexibility and throughput without the need for a full system replacement.
